Mariana on film.

These photos are direct black and white negative scans. For some reason my scanner automatically tones them. All these were taken with a Nikon FM3a using an Ilford HP5 Plus film at Subang Jaya Lake Garden.

I don't know much about film though, I was just reading what it wrote on the negative. What I know is that I absolutely love shooting with film, the feeling you get out of film is just satisfying. Different from what you get when shooting digital. And the fact that what you shoot is what you get is quite a challenge, especially being so used to digital and the 'magic' of Photoshopping.

I really would love to have my own darkroom someday. And I really need to shoot more film. Sigh, digital has made me so damn lazy. Things are just too easy nowadays. We tend to take it for granted, abuse it creating more and more shitty images, turning Photoshop into ones savior to make ugly photos look purdy. I always stop and think to myself, and wonder, how would my images be without Photoshop. Haha, crappy ding dong I'd say! Then again, it's just another tool, a medium to create. That's why I've never really consider myself a photographer.

I'm not worthy.

I love these photos. even without photoshop, I'm positive your photos are still as wonderful as ever. actually I prefer you an artist more than a photographer.....but that doesnt mean you're not a photographer at all lol. I don't use photoshop [since I dont have it] but I do edit the saturation etc on my boring windows picture editor [eww]. ..anyway..just think this: what would photoshop be without your pictures...useless! lol
you are definitely worthy of all that you have.
also, your pictures and skills motivated me to start taking pictures. ^^
anyway, I'm blabbing too much.

Much love, Anna Joe

Anna, these pics remind me of the work of Diana Pirez... check out her gallery at http://amiba.deviantart.com if you've not seen her stuff before.

Personally, I couldn't be doing with processing film in a darkroom... digital all the way for me! :)

always let the mind wonder into film -- the result never ceases to amaze -- like the way the light plays with each frame -- later days

haha funny thing was I did the stalking first. I was actually reading your blog when I your comment came. it's a coool.

anyway, i always have this debate with my ownself about the whole digital/analogue thing. shooting digital all these years kinda makes you feel hallow to a certain extent.

i use to process my own black and white photos when i was in college and it felt soo much more satisfying. i justify(poorly) myself by thinking that digital is always the cheaper alternative.

haha.

take care. awesome shots btw, love your approach.

Love yr photos. Can't mistake the 'wet' film look. I'm digital but my daughter uses only film so I've seen what it can do and yes Photoshop does make one lazy. I always say my (digital) camera makes me a far better photgrapher than I really am. Some local art colleges here will let you use their darkrooms, any chance of that where you are?
